Kano and Sonya Blade Reportedly Cast for Mortal Kombat Reboot

It looks like the R rated Mortal Kombat reboot is shaping up nicely. After the castings of Sub-Zero and Liu Kang, we now have the double-header of Sonya Blade and Kano, both of whom reportedly been cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Both characters are fan-favorites and veteran fighters, appearing in numerous games, including the recently-released Mortal Kombat 11.

First, don't worry, we're not getting Ronda Rousey as Sonya Blade. While she definitely looks the part, the former Raw Women's Champion didn't give a good performance as the beloved character and will be played by The Meg star Jessica McNamee. She's obviously a much better actress, though she might have to buff up to play as the badass fighter who has been around since the early Mortal Kombat games.

Kano will be played by Australian actor Josh Lawson Showtime's House of Lies and Anchorman 2, among other roles. It's an interesting choice and we only hope that he has what it takes to be Kano, who is also a fan-favorite character, though isn't as popular as, say, Scorpion or Raiden.

The fact that we have Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, and Kano is a good start. Obviously, we won't see every Mortal Kombat character ever but there's a good chance that we'll see most of the popular ones, and teases of others during the film itself.

Also, please cast WWE superstar The Miz as Johnny Cage. He practically plays the guy on WWE Raw every week so they might as well cast someone who does the part on a regular basis.

No release date for the Mortal Kombat film has been announced. Mortal Kombat 11 is available now.
