Kaguya-sama: Love Is War couldn’t be further from The 100 Girlfriends story-wise. Surprisingly though, Kaguya-sama creator Aka Akasaka revealed in a recent interview that he wants to work on The 100 Girlfriends.

As the anime continues its run, Comic Natalie hosted a surprising interview between The 100 Girlfriends author Rikito Nakamura and Aka Akasaka. There, the two authors shared their thoughts on each other’s stories.

Nakamura also shared a surprising tidbit. He revealed that he is increasingly feeling the challenge of adding 100 girlfriends into the story.

The 100 Girlfriends follows high school boy Rentaro Aijo who is destined to have 100 soulmates because of an error by the God of Love. The catch is that he has to return their feelings as each girl will die if he doesn’t.

Because of this premise, the series isn’t your typical wish-fulfillment harem anime. Instead, it’s a more comedic take on the genre.

In the interview between the two authors, Nakamura revealed that he decided to go with 100 girlfriends as 10 is too typical while 1000 is too much and unrealistic.

Of course, this means Nakamura will need to introduce 100 girls before the story ends. During their discussion, Nakamura said that he already has plans for the girls, though only 27 have been introduced so far.

When asked by Akasaka what he was going to do next, Nakamura said that he was feeling the constraint of the premise.

That’s because the number of characters in a frame is limited, meaning it’s nigh impossible to fit nearly a hundred girls in a panel and the story.

Akasaka’s Kaguya-sama: Love Is War is not at all a harem series, though Akasaka revealed that he wants to try his hand on The 100 Girlfriends.

He said that, if he had the chance, he hoped that Nakamura would let him work on one chapter. Akasaka didn’t mention the specific idea he has in mind, but he said that he has a lot of stories in mind based on the premise.

Nakamura replied that this was an interesting proposition as it would help reduce the number of girls he would introduce.

This was just a fun idea that Akasaka mentioned, so fans might not want to get their hopes up.

A chapter by Akasaka wouldn’t be entirely out of the question though, given that both his ongoing Oshi no Ko and Nakamura’s The 100 Girlfriends are serialized in the same magazine.
