Specifically, Junji Ito’s Bloodsucking Darkness manga is confirmed to get a live-action movie from Fangoria Studios, a US-based film and TV company.

When it comes to horror manga, there’s probably no bigger name than Junji Ito.

After all, Ito is easily one of the most recognizable manga artists thanks to his iconic horror works such as Uzumaki and Tomie.

Thanks to the popularity of his works, Ito’s manga have received numerous adaptations over the years. For instance, there’s the Tomie movie series in Japan with nine feature films released.

In the last couple of years, there were also two anime adaptations by Studio Deen, the first being the Junji Ito Collection which was released on Crunchyroll.

This was followed by Netflix’s Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre.

Released back in January, Maniac adapts various stories from Ito, including popular works like The Hanging Balloons, Tomie, Tomb Town, and more.

These are the most well-known Ito adaptations, but there are lots of others that are mostly produced by Japanese companies.

Because of this, the upcoming Bloodsucking Darkness live-action is interesting as it’s a Western production.

As reported by Variety, the new Junji Ito live-action movie is in the works, though it’s still in its early phases as there’s still no director and cast information yet.

What was confirmed is that the movie will be developed by Jeff Howard, the writer of the critically acclaimed The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass from Netflix.

Regarding the upcoming film, Howard said:

When I found out a live-action Junji Ito adaptation was going to happen, I chased after it with everything I had, because I just couldn’t live with anyone else getting there before me.
