There is little doubt that people believe that working on Deadpool 2 would be a breeze considering that Ryan Reynolds is involved. However, Josh Brolin claims the opposite. Interestingly, the Dune star says that working on the sequel was more difficult than a bigger project like Avengers: Endgame.
Brolin was recently a guest on the Team Deakins podcast where he spoke about the difference between the two comic book movies. First, Brolin went out of his way to praise co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
"I mentioned [Marlon] Brando in Apocalypse Now, this guy who is very elusive and insane but what he is saying makes sense and is poetical. I started seeing the parallel, which I liked for me. I loved being able to resort to a film like Apocalypse Now when I was doing something like Avengers," Brolin said. He then continued to point out that he didn't have the same experience on Deadpool 2.
"Deadpool was hard," Brolin said. "Even though it was funny, it was harder. That was more of a business transaction, it was more, 'We need to make this like this,' whereas I didn't feel that way with Avengers."
It's an interesting comparison considering that Endgame had a larger cast compared to the Deadpool sequel. Either way, it does confirm that comedies are not necessarily the easiest movies to make.
Brolin will appear in Denis Villeneuve's Dune adaptation, which also stars Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, and Dave Bautista. The film is currently still scheduled for release on December 18.
