Josh Boone Explains Why The New Mutants Aren't in the X-Mansion

The New Mutants is going to be the last X-Men film from 20th Century FO-sorry, 20th Century Studios and it looks like one hell of a sendoff. While a lot of us wish Logan was the final X-Men movie from the studio, there's no denying how great this horror-inspired comic book movie looks. Seeing these young characters in a horrific asylum already has us protective of them and their situation, though many have wondered why they aren't in Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters aka the X-Mansion.

Director Josh Boone has an answer and no, it's not "Which X-Mansion? Continuity is a mess in these X-Men films." Boone told ScreenRant that they're in a place for mutants whose powers are too dangerous to be in the X-Mansion, at least for now. The director didn't give any more details since he would supposedly spoil the movie if he did. Respect.

Here's Boone's more detailed answer:

"They're very much in a place that's like a psych hold for mutants who are too dangerous to be at the mansion. You know. I'd tell you more, but there's twists and turns and all that. But yeah, there's a doctor there who helps them and they do that stuff. Like I said, a little Girl Interrupted and Cukoo's Nest and a horror movie."

We can't wait to see what The New Mutants has in store for us, especially after that year-long delay. Boone has stated in the past that this movie is very much his vision, ironically thanks to Disney buying out Fox, which led to him gaining creative control over the feature film. Ain't that a shocker?

The New Mutants is currently scheduled for an April 3 release.
