Joker Star Marc Maron Criticizes Marvel Fans In Latest Netflix Standup Special

It looks like Marc Maron is out ranting about pop culture again, this time in his new standup special for Netflix.

Hosting a brand new standup show for Netflix, the GLOW and Joker star talks about what it's like to address fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (via ComicBook.com). Maron says that Marvel fans have can act like "religious fanatics" when discussing popular projects in the MCU.

According to Maron, he's been "punching up" when he talks with MCU fans, saying that "They're no longer, ya know, the ‘huddled weirdos.'" The comedian then proceeds to give his criticism about the MCU, saying that films by Marvel Studios have built a "cultural bubble" that may not be "as Evil as Fox" but is still something that Maron would call "culturally malignant."

Maron's main issue seems to be with how fans feel outraged when their ideas are challenged by others. While some fans would take offense, the comedian and actor does have some sort of point – there are those who can become pretty defensive when someone criticizes Marvel movies or Marvel heroes.

The comedian does seem to be a bit more forgiving when it comes to the DC Extended Universe though. The actor who's appeared in Joker only has pleasant remarks about the movie, saying that Todd Phillips' film is far different from the comic book movies being churned out by the industry.

What do you think? Would you agree with Maron's commentary about Marvel fans? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
