Joker Script Finally Confirms Sophie's Fate

There is little doubt that Joker was an excellent film but it also left a lot of things unanswered. For instance, did Arthur Fleck do something terrible to Sophie after she rejected him? Luckily, the script for the Warner Bros. movie has finally confirmed Sophie's fate.

The official script for Joker, which was penned by director Todd Phillips and co-writer Scott Silver is now available online and it confirms that Sophie was left unharmed. Interestingly, it even reveals that Arthur made sure she would watch his appearance on Murray Franklin's show.

In the script, Arthur writes a note for Sophie along with an unexpected gift.

"STILL FROM BEHIND, he lays the envelope in front of Sophie's door, then pulls something else out of his pocket -- his body obscuring what it is -- puts it down by her door and leaves," the script reads. "As he walks away down the hallway, we see what else Arthur left behind -- HIS MAGIC WAND OF FLOWERS, at Sophie's door."

Sophie's reaction to Arthur shooting Murray was also in the script.

"Sophie screams and jumps to her feet horrified! Waking up GiGi who starts to cry when she sees what's on television--ANGLE ON TELEVISION, Joker gets up and walks right up to the camera. Blood sprayed over his white painted face. Hear the studio audience still screaming, bedlam all around him."

It's good to know that Sophie survived although she was traumatized by what happened in the film. On the other hand, these little things might be better left ambiguous so the audience are left to wonder.

Joker is nominated for several Golden Globe awards including Best Drama and Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix.
