It's no mystery that Todd Phillips' Joker draws influence from Martin Scorsese's films, specifically Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy. A new IMAX poster had just dropped for the film, and the interesting thing is, it's actually a tribute to the poster of Scorsese's Taxi Driver.

It's just a simple image of the protagonists standing in front of a car, but it's a pretty neat nod. If anything, the car behind Joker could very much be a yellow taxi as well, but it's hard to tell because it's on fire.
What's also interesting is that the movie also has Robert De Niro included in the cast. De Niro was the star of both Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, and in this film, he plays a talk show host. In TCOK, De Niro played a delusional comedian who took a talk show hostage for a little moment in the spotlight. Now in Joker, it looks like the roles have been reversed, with De Niro the hostage and Joker bargaining for the spotlight.
With the lighthearted takes of Shazam! and Aquaman, I'm pretty excited for the dark take that Joker is pushing forward with. If anything, it's actually a character study masquerading as a comic book film; I guess it's an interesting way to get the comic fan boys to watch something other than your standard superhero fanfare.
