Joker Becomes First DC Comics Film Nominated for Oscar's Best Picture Award

Joker continues to prove its box-office success with an astounding number of nominations for the Oscars. The movie is already leading the 92nd Academy Awards with 11 nominations, and the DC Comics-inspired film has also made Oscars history.

The film was nominated for Best Picture, joining Marvel's Black Panther in making Oscars history as the second comic book movie to ever be nominated for the category, as well as the first DC Comics film to get nominated for the coveted award.

Joker was also nominated for Best Director for Todd Phillips, Best Actor in a Leading Role for Joaquin Phoenix, Best Adapted Screenplay for Phillips and Scott Silves, Best Cinematography for Lawrence Sher, Best Costume Design for Mark Bridges, Best Film Editing for Jeff Groth, Best Makeup and Hairstyling for Nicki Ledermann and Kay Georgiou, Best Sound Editing for Alan Robert Murray, and last but not the least, Best Sound Mixing for Tom Ozanich, Dean Zupancic, and Tod Maitland.

The movie has already received great accolades this awards season, earning top nominations from the BAFTA Film Awards, Golden Globes, and Critics' Choice Awards, amongst others. And while the film did have some issues along the way, Todd Phillips' Joker grossed $1.066 billion worldwide which makes it the highest-grossing R-rated movie of 2019.
