The Joker has been receiving a whole lot of recognition at the awards circuit this year, raking in 11 nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards - the most number of nominations for a movie in 2019.
Now, as fans wait for the Oscars in February, new reports reveal that Joaquin Phoenix has become the odds-on favorite to win the Best Actor award at the 2019 Oscars for his performance as Arthur Fleck in Todd Phillip's gritty character study of Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime.
Bovada has a report on some of the favorites for this year's Oscars (via Heroic Hollywood), and according to the entertainment news outlet, Phoenix is the favorite to win Best Actor at the 92nd Academy Awards. The actor is currently at the +2200 odds to win Best Actor while Joker is in the fourth place to win Best Picture with about +2500 odds.
This report shouldn't come as a surprise. Phoenix delivered a powerful performance in Joker, stunning fans with his delivery in the gritty comic book movie. The actor's performance has been recognized by other award-giving bodies, taking in the Best Actor award at the 2020 Golden Globes and at the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
If Phoenix does manage to win at this year's Academy Awards, then this is going to be the actor's very first Oscar. Sure, the Walk the Line star has received recognition for many of his films, including 4 nominations at the Academy Awards, however, Phoenix has yet to receive an Oscar. We're hoping that this is finally going to be the year for Phoenix.
