Jojo Rabbit: Taika Waititi's Next Movie will 'Piss Off a Lot of Racists'

After Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi has become one of the hottest directors in Hollywood. For now, Waititi is set to direct a WW2 era movie called Jojo Rabbit, and Waititi talks a little about the film that he's going to work on.

In a press release statement (via Collider), Waititi had this to say about the film:

"I'm stoked to begin shooting my anti-war satire. We've assembled an incredible cast and I couldn't be more excited to finally ridicule Nazis and their beliefs. This film is going to piss off a lot of racists and that makes me very happy."

The story of Jojo Rabbit is said to focus on a German boy who discovers that his mother is hiding a refugee Jewish girl. The cast includes yhe likes of Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, and Rebel Wilson. The lead will be played by newcomer Roman Griffin Davis, and Waititi himself is set to play Adolf Hitler—not the actual Hitler, but an imaginary Hitler as viewed by the lead boy character.

This sounds like it has all the earmarks of a Taika Waititi film; a young boy as the lead character, a small role for Waititi, and comedy in the face of tragedy. I'll be honest, as a fan of Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok felt like kind of a step back for the director. The film was still fun, but it didn't feel as human as Hunt for the Wilderpeople or Boy.

No official release date has been set for Jojo Rabbit, but we could get the movie sometime in 2019 or 2020.
