The story of John Wick may have seemingly been wrapped up in Chapter 4, but that doesn’t mean the end of the franchise. That’s because director Chad Stahelski confirmed that a John Wick anime is in the works.

Stahelski revealed this in an interview over at The Discourse podcast. There, he talked about the future projects for the series, including the future possibilities for a fifth feature film.

Perhaps the most interesting thing Stahelski mentioned is that a John Wick animated series is in the works.

Since the release of the first film back in 2014, John Wick has become one of the biggest action movie franchises. This is thanks in large part to the film’s incredible action scenes led by Keanu Reeves.

Another thing audiences have latched on to is the series’ unique world. Instead of a grounded action story, the films feature intriguing lore about assassins and all sorts of underground organizations.

Thanks to the films’ deep worldbuilding, John Wick is expanding to more than just a film series. For starters, there’s The Continental, a live-action TV series that was released just recently.

Now, Stahelski confirmed that more projects are in the works, including an anime.

It’s not clear yet what this anime will be, but based on how Stahelski talked about it in his recent podcast appearance, this will likely be a TV anime series.

Stahelski also implied that it would be a proper anime made by a Japanese studio.

Aside from an anime, Stahelski also said that another TV series is in development.

Stahelski didn’t exactly reveal much in the way of details regarding the anime, though it’s clear from the way he talked about it that he’s passionate about the project.

This also likely means Stahelski will be more involved in this series compared to The Continental, the three-episode series that got mixed reviews.

Given Stahelski’s track record with the live-action films, chances are high that this upcoming anime will satisfy fans if he’s heavily involved.

As for the studio, there’s no word yet on which will take the lead in animating the series. Chances are that a studio that has worked on international productions like Trigger with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be chosen.

The John Wick anime is still very early into its production, so chances are that we’ll only hear more news about it sometime in 2024.
