FX’s new Feud season is getting a lot of attention, with many focusing on the colorful Swans. Of course, there’s also a lot of interest in John O’Shea in Feud: Capote vs the Swans.
O’Sheamay not exactly be part of the “ladies who lunch” that Capote was said to have written scathingly about in his unfinished book, but he nonetheless plays a big role in the series. After all, he’s Capote’s lover.
As this series is a star-studded one (both in front of and behind the camera), there’s naturally a lot of attention on who plays John O’Shea in the series.
John O’Shea and Truman Capote’s Relationship
Capote vs. The Swans is the long-awaited second season of Feud by Ryan Murphy, the notable creator of shows like American Horror Stories, Ratched, and Dahmer, among many other popular titles.
While Murphy is one of the showrunners, the series’ episodes are helmed by notable directors, including Gus Van Sant, the director of My Own Private Idaho and Good Will Hunting.
As its title implies, this second season of Feud follows Truman Capote as he earns the ire of his former friends, the Swans – a group of New York City socialites.
Capote’s tumultuous relationship with the Swans is no doubt the center of this new series, but John O’Shea is another key figure in the series.
As the show presents, it’s not only the Swans who have turbulent domestic lives. The series also presents O’Shea as being abusive towards Capote, with O’Shea assaulting Capote after the author verbally lashes out.
O’Shea and Capote’s relationship has been noted to be unstable and violent, but there are not a lot of actual accounts of this. Thus, the show’s presentation of their relationship should be taken as mainly fictional.
Who Plays John O’Shea in Feud: Capote vs the Swans
Even though it’s essentially fiction, John O’Shea in Feud has gotten the attention of many viewers.
Playing the role of O’Shea is Russel Tovey, an English actor who gained renown for his role as George Sands in the BBC series Being Human.
In the US, Tovey has played roles such as Kevin Matheson in HBO’s Looking, as well as the lead Patrick Read in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: NYC.
O’Shea is part of Feud’s incredibly stacked cast which stars Tom Hollander as the Truman Capote. The Swans meanwhile are composed of notable actresses such as Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, and Chloë Sevigny, among others.
