John Cena and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson have been pitted against each other for decades. Both started their careers as professional wrestlers before they shifted to acting. Their years of rivalry are featured on the new episode of WWE Rival.

John Cena Pays Tribute To Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson

Cena and The Rock have been dissing each other in various interviews. Their rivalry is the focus of the newest episode of WWE Raw's documentary.

However, the Fast X star credited The Rock for his professional and personal growth.

He wrote on Twitter:

"Relive this epic @WWE rivalry thru those who lived it. I wouldn't be who I am 2day w/o @TheRock. Professionally & personally. He challenged me, demanded my best, forced me to address my flaws w/ the world watching! Respect is a core value for me…this took it to new level!"

In the documentary, it seemed that Cena had already moved on from their past drama. He also admitted that he wanted to see Johnson's return to WWE, but he clarified that it's up to the latter.

Cena returned to the WWE ring in 2021.

"He's earned the right not to be pressured into that choice. I can say he is a fan of the WWE. He is the most electrifying man in sports entertainment," Cena said of Johnson while giving the nod to the latter's many titles highlighted on his WWE bio.

"So, as a fan, do I want to see one of the greatest performers of all time step back in the WWE ring? Yeah. But in no way am I gonna call him and if I'm gonna talk to him about something, it's not gonna try to be to get him back in the WWE ring."

He added:

"He needs to come to that conclusion by himself because then, his performance will be 'The Rock.' He'll be the best he can be. So I do hope he comes back, as a fan, and I hope it's wonderful, and if he chooses not to, he's earned the right to choose not to."

Johnson was the face of WWE in the '90s before he switched to doing Hollywood movies. When he took off, Cena took over his role, People reported.

However, Cena had publicly criticized the Black Adam star that led to a dream match in 2012 and again the following year.

In 2011, Cena aimed at Johnson by "questioning whether or not The Rock even cares about the business," one of the experts says in the clip of the documentary.

"This is what happens when idiots have confidence," The Rock said in an old clip about Cena "popping off at the mouth," leading up to their much-anticipated Wrestlemania match.

The Rock added in a second BTC clip:

"My size 15 boot right up John Cena's candy a--, I mean, it's really gonna be a beautiful thing."

Cena said while dressed in a suit about the match:

"He came out swinging, I came out swinging. It was as real as you can imagine."
