Joe Russo Says Wonder Woman 1984 Digital Release is 'Brave and Bold'

There is little doubt that people had mixed reactions when it was confirmed that Wonder Woman 1984 would be given a digital release on HBO Max after several delays. However, it looks like Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo has the most interesting response to the decision. The filmmaker has just stated that the decision to release the DC Extended Universe sequel digitally is a "brave and bold" move.

Russo recently spoke to Collider where he addressed Warner Bros.' decision to make Wonder Woman 1984 available on HBO Max. Interestingly, the Russo stated that this move was best explained by what 1984 director Patty Jenkins said.

"I think Patty Jenkins said it best. She made something that she put an incredible amount of love and joy into, and now she's ready to share it with the world," Russo said. "I think it's incredibly brave and bold of her as a filmmaker."

Russo added that the move could be more common when other films need to be released.

"I do think that this is the future of the business. There can be room for both digital and theatrical, and in fact, both could perhaps enhance each other's business and experience," he said.

Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince, Kristen Wiig as Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord, and Chris Pine as Steve Trevor. The sequel is scheduled to be released theatrically on December 25. However, it will also stream digitally on HBO Max for a month starting on Christmas Day.
