Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo is currently under scrutiny right now in social media thanks to his recent post that threw shade at Martin Scorsese, who has infamously criticized the dominance of comic book movies in the past few years.

A few weeks ago, Martin's daughter Francesa posted a video on TikTok where he was seen doing a playful skit with his schnauzer dog named Oscar.

In a recent video post on Instagram, Russo took a jab at the legendary filmmaker by saying that he has the same breed of dog and jokingly named him "Box Office."

"Aw look, he’s got a schnauzer! I love schnauzers. And his name is Oscar. That’s really cute. Okay, come on, Box Office," the MCU director said in the video.

While Russo may have intended the video as a joke, it received a lot of criticism online as it was perceived as poking fun at Scorsese in connection to his controversial comments on Marvel movies.

Several users on X slammed Russo in response to his recent video post as they saw it as tasteless and an unnecessary bizarre shade.

Some even poked fun at him as they described his work as not as vital as Scorsese's contributions to cinema and won't be remembered in the same way as the Oscar winner.

This is a polarizing online conversation right now that unfortunately divides the general film community (aka Film Twitter) and comic book fans once again as there are some who defend Russo's video, which was perceived as a jab at the box office results of Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon as well.

Unlike the past responses that were made by people involved in MCU projects which were usually done during interviews, this one came directly from Russo himself and it is seen by many as a bizarre and unnecessary shade since Scorsese's TikTok video was not a direct attack to them by any means.

So far, Russo has not responded to the backlash and it is likely that he won't comment at all since it might die down in a few days like some social media backlashes are.
