Over the years, the Spider-Man suit has been worn by different actors, which MCU fans have grown to love and become accustomed to. But have you ever thought about those faces that might wear the suit and launch the series of webs?
In a recent interview, singer-actor Joe Jonas revealed to Just For Variety podcast that he auditioned for the 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, but succumbed to Andrew Garfield for the titular role.
“I remember years ago I was up for Spider-Man and I was so, so excited and it was the year Andrew Garfield got it,” Jonas recounted.
Given that the Spider-Man franchise was huge, Jonas was eager to bag that call back, yet despite the defeat, the Camp Rock star believes that Garfield was the right one for the role.
He opened up, “In the moment, you’re destroyed or you’re defeated. But you realize this person was brilliant. Obviously, he was the right one,”
“I remember that was a big thing at the time, going back for callbacks and the director used to be a music video director. So I was like, ‘I got an in here.’” continued the singer-actor.
However the audition turned out, Jonas had no regrets to come in for the tryout, “But you know what? I love the process of auditioning and putting yourself out there and having to prove yourself.”
When asked if he ever got to put on a Spider-Man suit for his auditions, Jonas said, “No, but I’m sure I had one that I would try on occasionally back in the day.”
Garfield, who co-starred in the film with his real-life girlfriend at the time, Emma Stone, has left a lasting impression on fans, given the convincing portrayal and endearing chemistry they showed on screen.

Earlier this month, the Amazing Spider-Man 2 VFX supervisor Jerome Chen shared with the Golden Age of Comic Book Blockbusters that Garfield went to extreme lengths to get in the proper headspace to film Gwen Stacy's (Stone) death.
“I remember when they were filming that scene, Andrew and Emma deliberately didn’t see each other for a week," Chen said. “Andrew said, 'I don’t want to see you! When you come into that scene, you have to pretend like you are dead to me.” disclosed the supervisor.
In 2021, Garfield reprised his role in Tom Holland's Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Sam Raimi's Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire.
