Jessica Chastain Debunks Why She’s Not Attached To Netflix’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo Movie

Many fans have been rejecting the idea of Netflix adapting one of the most popular novels into a film, and that is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

There is nothing strange about fans picking their preferred cast for the adaptation, which is The Help star Jessica Chastain to be the titular character.

Fans may have gained success in a previous report claiming that she has been cast as they wanted, only to be distraught at the news of Netflix making the novel into a film, which arguably wouldn’t be enough, given the 400-page novel.

However, fans might as well take an exit out of the project as Jessica Chastain has just confirmed she is not attached to the Evelyn Hugo movie.

“I’ve been asked multiple times by fans, to sign books that I’m not attached to contractually.” Chastain tweeted as a response to a viral video of her refusing to sign a fan's book.

“Because it feels wrong and like, I’m taking credit for someone else’s work, I’ll say I can’t sign because I’m not doing it.” Chastain added, “That doesn’t mean I’ve read a bad script.”

“I know how excited many [of] you are about adaptations. Please don’t read too much into a video.”

Chastain then went on to promote her onstage project, “There is no news about anything. Except that I’m onstage until June 10th. Hope to see you #ADollsHouse.”

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo found its way in bookstores back in 2017 and became a bona fide hit thanks to ‘BookTok’ on TikTok, in which millions of users have already read and enjoyed the book.

The novel’s plot description reads: “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo tells the story of the fictional Old Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo, who, at age 79, gives a final interview to an unknown journalist, Monique Grant.”

The adaptation has been in the works since 2019, originally being developed by Freeform and Fox 21 Television Studios.

The adaptation, unfortunately, fell out when Freeform lost their rights to the project in 2021.
