Jesse Eisenberg Comments on His Future as Lex Luthor in the DCEU

One of the most divisive and, let's be honest, hated parts about Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was Jesse Eisenberg's interpretation of Lex Luthor. It wasn't his fault of course; an actor has to follow what the director wants and his performance is what Snyder wanted, even if other fans didn't approve. Well, it seems like Eisenberg is aware of the backlash his performance received since he doesn't think his version of Luthor will return.

During an interview about his upcoming movie Zombieland: Double Tap, Eisenberg and co-star Woody Harrelson were discussing superhero movies they've been in. As most of us know, Harrelson will be reprising his role as Cletus Kassidy for the Andy Serkis-directed Venom sequel and he shared enthusiasm about his return.

Eisenberg doesn't expect a return at all however and here's why (via ComicBookMovie):

"Different venues. I will say, quite confidently, different venues. His will be, like, kind of a movie that people go to and mine will be in my living room that people occasionally go to but mostly one at a time."

While his version of the Luthor character was horrible it was to the wishes of Zack Snyder, who envisioned this villain to be this way. Eisenberg has proven to be talented many times and it's a shame that they had to have him perform like that. We probably won't see Lex Luthor on the silver screen unless we're getting a Superman reboot or a non-canon movie like Joker.

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is the next DCEU film and is scheduled for a February 2020 release. Eisenberg's Zombieland: Double Tap comes out on October 18.
