Jeremy Renner's snowplow accident on New Year's Day has dominated the entertainment news for the past few days as fans are concerned about the MCU actor's health status as a result of the situation and anxiously waiting for more updates regarding his hopeful recovery.
Recently, the actor's representatives announced that he is already out of surgery and is currently in recovery mode although his state is deemed a "critical but stable" condition in the intensive care unit.
Yesterday, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office sheds some light on what exactly happened in the accident where they revealed that, prior to the event, Renner was helping a family member who was driving his vehicle and got stuck due to the weather conditions.
The actor used his snowplow machine, which weighed at least 14,330 pounds, to help his family member. However, by the time he was speaking to them, the machine started rolling and it began hitting him.
"After successfully towing his personal vehicle from its stuck location, Mr. Renner got out of his PistenBully to speak with his family member," Sheriff Darin Balaam said in the press conference.
"At this point, it is observed that the PistenBully started to roll. In an effort to stop the rolling PistenBully, Mr. Renner attempts to get back into the driver seat of the PistenBully. Based on our investigation, it’s at this point that Mr. Renner is run over by the PistenBully."
The accident is described by the sheriff as a "tragic accident" and foul play was ruled out. He also noted that there was no doctor during the scene, but the neighbors were able to help Renner before the paramedics arrived.
Around the same time, Renner posted his first selfie since the accident on Instagram where he thanked his fans for the well wishes that he's been receiving. "Thank you all for your kind words. Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all," he wrote.
