Jeopardy Host Alex Trebek Passes Away at Age 80

It's a truly devastating day for the world. Long-time Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek has just passed away at the age of 80.

The confirmation comes from the official Jeopardy! Twitter account which revealed in a tweet that Trebek passed away earlier today.

"Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex," the tweet reads.

In March 2019, Trebek had confirmed that he had been diagnosed with Stage Four pancreatic cancer. However, the Peabody Awardee remained cheerful despite the diagnosis. "I have lived a good life, a full life and I'm nearing the end of that life," Trebek has said.

Although Trebek's passing is somehow sudden for fans, we will still be able to see the host in the upcoming episodes of the game show. According to Variety, Sony has confirmed that Trebek continued filming new episodes until October 29. This means fans will still get to see him hosting new Jeopardy! episodes until Christmas Day. In addition to that, Jeopardy! has not announced plans for a new host at this time.

Trebek has won five Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host. He also held the Guinness World Record for the Most Game Show Episodes Hosted By The Same Presenter (Same Program), having hosted 6,829 episodes of Jeopardy!

Rest in peace, Alex Trebek. You will truly be missed.
