Following its reveal earlier this year, Doga Kobo shared a new retro-style trailer for the original anime Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night.

This new trailer was shared on the anime’s official X (formerly Twitter) account and on the KING AMUSEMENT CREATIVE official channel.

Similar to the previous trailers, this latest one does not feature actual animated clips. Instead, it’s a retro trailer that shares the general vibe viewers can expect in the upcoming series.

Doga Kobo has made a name for itself with well-received adaptations of popular manga, including Oshi no Ko and Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie. The studio’s next project is a bit different though, as it features an original story.

Titled Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night, this upcoming anime is being made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doga Kobo. Yes, while it may seem like a fairly new studio, Doga Kobo was founded back in 1973.

The anime was revealed in March 2023 with a live-action preview video and a teaser visual. Since then, Doga Kobo has released more videos and visuals of its cast.

Interestingly, there’s not a lot of info about the show’s story. The only details that are confirmed are that it will be set in Shibuya and will follow a girl who roams the district.

It’s not clear why Shibuya was chosen to be the show’s setting as the Doga Kobo office isn’t located there.

As one of Tokyo’s biggest downtown districts though, Shibuya is a popular setting in anime and manga.

Doga Kobo recently shared another trailer for the anime. Much like the previous videos, this trailer does not feature actual animated clips from the series.

What this trailer has are retro-style live-action clips that look straight out of the 90s.

It’s also interesting that the video is not set in Shibuya. Instead, it seems to take place in Odaiba Beach in Tokyo.

If this new video isn’t enough, fans can at least look forward to actual clips from the anime next week.

On November 1, a new promo video will be shared that promises to give fans their first proper look at the show.

Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night will be released sometime in 2024, though there’s no word yet on a specific release date.
