Jeff Goldblum Reveals How Ian Malcolm Nearly Got Cut Off From Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park fans might love Jeff Goldblum's sexy cynic Ian Malcolm, however, it turns out that the mathematician was nearly completely cut from the original Jurassic Park movie.

The home video release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom just recently came out, and according to a new report by ComicBook.com, Goldblum decided to share a little fun fact about Ian Malcolm in a special feature included in the DVD.

"When I first met Steven Spielberg at Amblin, he came in and said, 'You know, there's a movement afoot, a new rewrite is happening, and your character, Ian Malcolm, is being written out,'" Goldblum revealed. "'We probably wanna give these funny lines and kinda incorporate your character into the Sam Neill character.'"

Luckily, it seems like Goldblum's performance helped Malcolm standout and the mathematician's become one of the most memorable characters in the franchise – so much so that Ian's appeared in more Jurassic Park films than any of the other original characters. If the original Jurassic Park writers would have known how important Malcolm would have become, they wouldn't even think of cutting the character from the film.

Now, with Universal Pictures moving on to its next Jurassic World project, Goldblum is hoping that he gets to reprise his role in Jurassic World 3 – something which may happen considering his popularity and the fact that the film will serve as a culmination of the saga.

Jurassic World 3 is set to release on June 11, 2021.
