Jar Jar Binks Set To Return In New Star Wars: Age Of Republic Series

Jar Jar Binks might be one of the most infamous characters in the Star Wars franchise, but it looks like the bumbling Gungan is going to get his own story in Marvel Comics' upcoming series Star Wars: Age of Republic Special #1.

Earlier this year, Lucasfilm announced the Age of comic book series, revealing an upcoming Marvel Comics title that would bring Star Wars fans to different time periods in the Star Wars saga. Star Wars: Age of Republic Special #1 is set to arrive next year, and it looks like the issue is going to compile a slew of short adventures, one of which puts the spotlight on Jar Jar Binks.

Marvel just recently posted new details about the upcoming issue (via Fanthatracks), revealing four different stories in Age of Republic Special #1. Here's a description of each story created by four different creative comic book teams.

-The worst Jedi in the galaxy has a score to settle — MACE WINDU returns in an action-packed adventure from OLD MAN HAWKEYE'S Ethan Sacks!

-You can run, but can you hide from the twin lightsabers of Sith assassin ASAJJ VENTRESS? Feel her fury in a tale expertly woven by veteran STAR WARS comic scribe Jody Houser (THRAWN, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS).

-And is JAR JAR BINKS' role in the Star Wars story over? NOT BY A LONG SHOT! Because Chip Zdarsky (PETER PARKER: THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN and MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE) has a rancor bone to pick with the galaxy's most notorious Gungan.

-You can take the clone out of the war but you can never take the war out of the clone — CAPTAIN REX dusts off his blaster and enters the fray in a story by X-MEN: GOLD author Marc Guggenheim.

While the comic book only has one story focused on Jar Jar, Age of Republic has been slated for release next year to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the character's debut. Jar Jar first appeared in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and while the character was meant as comic relief, fans couldn't help but ridicule the Gungan for his antics that just didn't fit in with Star Wars saga.

Jar Jar ultimately became one of the most disliked aspects of the prequels and his role in the trilogy became smaller and smaller with each film because of fan's response to the character's nonsense.

Star Wars: Age of Republic Special Issue #1 hits shelves sometime next year.
