James Wan on Bringing Aquaman's Classic Costume to the Big Screen

Though Jason Momoa has already appeared as Aquaman in three DCEU films, we still haven't seen him in the classic orange and green suit from the comics. As it turns out, that was one of the hardest elements to bring onscreen, and director James Wan talks a bit about pulling it off.

In an interview with Total Film (via Heroic Hollywood), Wan explains:

"The suit is kind of campy… So I'm like, ‘How do I make it cool for today's audience?' The other thing I wanted to get right, too, is his classic weapon, his trident. I wanted to make sure that it's actually a trident…"

It's a hard suit to pull off. He's been literally ridiculed his whole career. I feel like the real die-hard Aquaman fans are going be like, ‘Yes!'"

I have to admit, for years Aquaman had become the butt of the joke and his costume has become synonymous to ridiculous, but when he walked out in the latest Aquaman trailer, Momoa looked nothing but cool.

With Marvel Studios usually updating their characters' costumes to look more modern and practical, I love how DC is embracing the comic book look for their heroes. Superman, Batman, and Shazam are basically just wearing the classic spandex from the comics, but in no way do they look campy or ridiculous. They gave Captain America the classic spandex in The First Avenger, and admittedly, it was just played for laughs:
