James Gunn Teases a Big Role for Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

While it wasn't included in the official Phase 4 announcement, a lot of fans are really looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, especially now that James Gunn is back in the director's chair after originally being fired over some 10-year-old tweets. Everyone was also hoping to see Thor in the sequel but it looks like we'll only see the aftermath of that adventure in 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder.

On the bright side, Gunn will get to tell the story his way and he even revealed an interesting bit that should get fans talking. Answering a fan question, he tweeted out that Rocket would play a major role in the third film, which should be refreshing. Though the character has always been a central part of the cast, Rocket always feels like a supporting character in these movies so him getting more of the spotlight should be interesting, to say the least.

Rocket has received a significant brunt of development over the first two films, clearly being a damaged individual who has a hard time trusting anyone, even his fellow Guardians. This was a major part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where Rocket would antagonize his teammates so much and not know that there's a limit to his toxic behavior. Things subsided after but they could always make things worse in the sequel.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 doesn't have a release date, as of this writing and will likely be delayed due to COVID-19. Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are now available on digital platforms.
