The DC Universe just ushered in a brand new era that is filled with a ton of promise. However, the franchise is still plagued with several controversies that have remained unaddressed, including Amber Heard's true status. Of course, it's no longer secret that fans have been campaigning for the removal of the controversial actress in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

While WB Discovery and DC Studios have yet to address the matter, fans already have a pretty interesting suggestion on which character should replace Mera in the franchise. On Twitter, one fan launched a petition calling for The Suicide Squad's King Shark to replace Amber Heard in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The said petition received the fandom's seal of approval and it would later spawn edited images of Arthur Curry teaming up with Nanaue. Well, it turns out that even director James Gunn, who now serves as one of DC Studios' heads seems to be on board with the idea. On his official Twitter account, he retweeted a GIF image putting the two characters together. Does it mean he's also in favor of Mera being replaced by King Shark? Check it out here:

James has proven time and time again that he listens to the fandom and knows exactly what they want and it would be safe to assume that Aquaman and King Shark crossing paths in the DCU is already in the works. As for Amber's future as Mera, I'd like to think that Gunn and Safran would like to start fresh with the "new" DC Universe and that includes getting rid of things that could cause an uproar within the fandom.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled for theatrical release on December 25, 2023.
