James Gunn Says the Script for The Suicide Squad is His Favorite

James Gunn might have started out his comic book movie journey when he directed Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel, but it looks like the filmmaker's favorite script that he's run across belongs to the DC Extended Universe.

Gunn just took to Instagram to answer fans' questions about the movies that he's made/ currently making. During the question and answer segment on the social media platform (via ComicBook.com) the filmmaker was asked by a fan to name his favorite script that he's written so far.

Sure, Gunn might have enjoyed working on all the films that he's made, but it's the script for The Suicide Squad that's really gotten him.

"My favorite screenplays you mean? I love the movies I directed all the same, so far, but I think I love The Suicide Squad script the most," Gunn answered. "Also love the scripts for Dawn of the Dead, Super, and The Specials."

This response might be a comfort to DC fans. The original Suicide Squad movie by David Ayer had a lot of great visuals but the film's narrative was nothing but terrible. The film ended up being one of the most poorly rated films in the DC Extended Universe, earning a dismal 27% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hearing that Gunn loves the script for The Suicide Squad means that we're not going to have the same kind of problem with the DCEU's reboot sequel to Ayer's Suicide Squad movie. Let's wait and see what happens.

The Suicide Squad is set to premiere on August 6, 2021.
