James Gunn and Peter Safran have made it very clear that they intend on revitalizing the DC film and television franchise, and this meant removing several actors from the current "DC Extended Universe" ensemble.

The duo did confirm that they are still looking to work with stars from the current DCEU roster, with Jason Momoa reportedly getting recast in the rebooted franchise as the anti-hero Lobo. Gal Gadot is also heavily rumored to stay but nothing official has been made.

Now, you may be wondering, apart from the Justice League stars, which actors from the so-called "SnyderVerse" could potentially end up in the new DCU? Well, the DC Studios co-head himself has officially confirmed one hero who will crossover to the rebooted franchise and it may come as a surprise to some of you.

Appearing on Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast (via ComicBook), the former Marvel Cinematic Universe director officially confirmed that Xolo Maridueña's Blue Beetle will be the "first" hero of the DC Universe, with Superman: Legacy being the franchise's first film.

He said: "I mean the first DCU character for sure is Blue Beetle and the first DCU movie is Superman."

For the uninitiated, Blue Beetle has long been in production even before Gunn and Safran were appointed as co-CEOs of the newly-established DC Studios. While we've yet to confirm if it actually takes place in the SnyderVerse, the project is listed as the 14th film in the DC Extended Universe.

Despite the likelihood of Blue Beetle being set in the SnyderVerse, that's not to say the character can't appear in the new DCU, especially with The Flash set to alter the entire multiverse.

It's definitely great news for Maridueña and it just goes to show that DC Studios have faith in him and his portrayal of Blue Beetle.

Blue Beetle is slated for theatrical release on August 18.
