James Gunn Gives Reminder to Fans Regarding DCU Casting Rumors

By this time, it should be a protocol to not believe anything you see on the internet, whatever it may be. Given how popular Marvel and DC are, they are among the ones who get to experience the unending rumors about their actors and projects. James Gunn’s revamping of DC continues to be underway, and for the nth time, he took to social media to remind fans not to believe anything unless it was confirmed by him or the studios.

“Ron Perlman is an actor I love but he isn’t on the show and he and I never even talked about him being on the show. It might be better if folks stopped believing rumors. If it doesn’t come from me or DC, it’s not to be believed.” said Gunn after a rumor circulated online that the Hellboy actor is joining the franchise via Creature Commandos.

Since he took the role as co-head of DC Studios, Gunn has been active on Twitter, debunking rumors about the new DC Universe he’s currently building with Peter Safran. Additionally, he also revealed the future of Peacemaker regarding its second season. The filmmaker also likes to give hints about future projects, such as the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy cast transferring to DC.

Creature Commandos is the first animated series set in the DC Universe's new era. The series' cast members have recently been announced, and Gunn said that he has written all of the episodes. Although Perlman is not expected to appear, familiar names such as Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Maria Bakalova (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), and Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi) have been confirmed as part of the ensemble.

Aside from this, as part of DCU’s Chapter 1, Gunn will both write and direct Superman: Legacy, a retelling of Clark Kent's story on the big screen, which is expected to take on a different tone from the previous Man of Steel movies that came before.

Creature Commandos is set to premiere on Max sometime in 2024.
