James Gunn: Don't Expect Character Info for The Suicide Squad Anytime Soon

James Gunn had just revealed the full cast list for The Suicide Squad a few days ago, but there hasn't been any confirmation on who's playing who. As it turns out, we'll have to wait even longer for that info.

When asked by a fan on Twitter when we're going to get the role reveals, Gunn replied with:

It would make sense that WB would be mum about the roles, especially counting that the film is still a long way from release. The Suicide Squad is set to come out August of 2021, and marketing too early could ruin a gradual build-up of hype.

With production set to start this month though, a lot of fans are hoping that we would at least get a look at the cast in costume. They did pretty much the same thing with Birds of Prey, and we got a good look at the characters officially before any set photos were coming out online.

For now, fans are sure that returning cast members from the first Suicide Squad will be reprising their roles i.e., Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang). We've also known for a while that David Dastmalchian has been cast as Polka-Dot Man with Daniela Melchoir as Ratcatcher. John Cena is also said to be playing Peacemaker and Steve Agee is King Shark.

We have no news yet on who Idris Elba is playing, but it was said that his character was originally supposed to be Deadshot before it was rewritten to be someone else. I have a feeling Storm Reid is playing Elba's daughter.

So far, everyone else's role is up for speculation.

Catch The Suicide Squad when it comes out Aug. 6, 2021.
