James Bond Exec Says 007 Will Never Be Played By A Woman

Daniel Craig is coming to the end of his contract as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's most recent James Bond and there's been a lot of talk about the potential actors to take over the role. While many have been intent on seeing a black actor like Idris Elba take on the iconic role of Agent 007, others have been hoping for a female James Bond.

If BBC's Time Lord can take a female form in the shape of Jodie Whittaker after decades of taking on the shape of a man in Doctor Who, then why can't the James Bond franchise do it, too?

Unfortunately, while fervently hoping for a woman to play Bond, executive producer Barbara Broccoli says that there are no plans to cast a woman into the role of 007. Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Broccoli puts her foot down saying that Bond was written as a male and that he'll probably stay that way for a while.

"Bond is a male. He's a male character. He was written as a male and I think he'll probably stay as male," the executive told the publication.

While there has been this call for diversity in the Hollywood landscape today, Broccoli says that it would be much better for studios to generate more female characters instead of recasting and reshaping iconic male franchises.

"Let's just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters," Broccoli explained during the interview.

While it might break fans hearts knowing that James Bond won't ever be played by the opposite gender, Broccoli does have a point. It's much better to have stories that are unique to women, creating something new instead of rebooting and recasting old films and franchises.

James Bond is set for release sometime in 2020.
