Jake Gyllenhaal recently opened up about losing out the starring role in Batman Begins to Christian Bale.

The Road House star was one of the actors who were in contention to play the Caped Crusader in the Christopher Nolan movie. As we all know, Bale ended up playing the role for the entire trilogy.

Despite losing the coveted superhero role, he still found his way to the comic book world as he ended up playing the villainous Mysterio in the MCU film Spider-Man: Far from Home.

As reported by Variety, during his guest appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Gyllenhaal reflected on losing the major roles in Batman Begins and Moulin Rouge.

While he was initially disheartened that he wasn't able to snag the role, he appreciated that Nolan personally told him that he didn't get the part.

"To [Nolan’s] credit and to Baz [Luhrmann’s] credit, both of those directors called me personally to tell me [I didn’t get the role]. And they will tell you why. When you get that far, there’s a real legitimacy to you potentially getting something," the Oscar nominee said.

Gyllenhaal also recalled the moment Nolan called him and how he didn't feel defeated after their conversation.

"I remember getting a call from Christopher Nolan and thinking, ‘I just got a call personally from Christopher Nolan. That’s pretty cool. I’ve gotten pretty far. I went from them going they aren’t sure [about me] to a call saying they’re really thinking about you for this movie. So okay, I should keep going. I should just keep going,'" he said.

Despite not getting the role, Gyllenhaal was still able to have a thriving acting career and he still continues to be one of the major A-list stars today.

As for the fans, they were able to witness a wonderful portrayal of the Caped Crusader from Bale so it is still a win-win situation for everyone.

Who knows, maybe Gyllenhaal will be considered for the DCU version of Batman and he has expressed his interest to take a shot again on potentially playing the hero.
