After being involved in cosmic and multiversal battles throughout his Spider-Man tenure, Peter Parker is reverting back to his roots as a street-level superhero and the next Spider-Man film under Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will see him back as the friendly neighborhood web-slinger.

There has been speculation for quite some time now about Spidey's next villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and while No Way Home dropped hints about a certain "alien" becoming his next big bad, a lot of folks are still under the impression that he'll be facing his own best friend (or former best friend, at least) Ned Leeds who will take on the Hobgoblin mantle.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Batalon apologized for sparking speculation about Spidey's next villain. When asked about the rumors of him turning into Hobgoblin in the future, Jacob said: "Uh-huh. Interesting. You know, I'd just like to say, I'm really sorry, everyone. I did this really stupid thing back in 2016 and mentioned it in an interview. And then I stupidly just continued with the story as if like I knew what was going to happen. And now everyone is talking about it."

He added: "I'm sorry for all the misinformation...a lot of people like the idea and a lot of people are disgusted by the idea. So I just feel like - because I'm very much, I'll do whatever. You know what I mean?"

I don't know about you but Batalon seemingly backpedaling on his previous statements could indicate that Ned will in fact become a villain in the next Spidey film. I mean, with the absence of Harry Osborne in the MCU, it's almost safe to assume that Peter Parker will also square off with his best friend, much like his multiversal counterparts have battled against their good pals. Ned becoming Hobgoblin is inevitable at this point.

Tom Holland's next Spider-Man film is currently in development.
