IT's Sophia Lillis is Playing the New Nancy Drew

Sophia Lillis was one of the breakout stars of last year's IT reboot, playing a young Beverly Marsh of the Losers Club. Now news has it that she'll be starring as the new Nancy Drew for the reboot adaptation of the classic character.

According to Deadline, Lillis has been tapped to star in an adaptation of one of the earlier Drew stories, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. We still have no news on the rest of the cast or a director, but Ellen DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, and Chip Diggins are all attached to produce the film.

Back in 2007, Emma Roberts has starred in a Nancy Drew film by Andrew Fleming. The movie, of course, ended up completely forgettable, and it barely made bank in the box office as well.

We don't know what era this new set of Nancy Drew films will be, but it would be great if they would embrace the 30s era in which the books were introduced. The Hidden Staircase was written by Mildred Wirt Benson under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene, and it was also adapted as a film way back in '39 starring Bonita Granville.

We don't know yet when this Nancy Drew project will hit cinemas, but fans of Lillis can catch her in HBO's Sharp Objects starring alongside Amy Adams.
