It's Going To Be A Long Wait Before Game of Thrones Season 8 Will Be Released

If you thought the wait for Game of Thrones Season 7 was too long, you'd probably be upset to hear that the final and eight season of HBO's epic fantasy series won't be released next year. Season 7 just ended with a bang, and we can't wait to find out how the people of Westeros will deal with the army of the dead. Winterfell is up north, so the White Walkers will probably invade that first, but sadly, it looks like we'll have to wait until 2019 before we see the show's epic final season.

According to THR's sources, production on Game of Thrones final season is slated to begin in October and run as late as August 2018, so that means the six-episode eight season will most likely pushed into 2019 with more than a 16-month gap between seasons.

Here's what HBO programming president Casey Bloys said in a statement:

"Our production people are trying to figure out a timeline for the shoot and how much time the special effects take. The shooting is complicated enough — on different continents, with all the technical aspects — and the special effects are a whole other production period that we're trying to figure out. That is a big factor in all of this."

16 months for just 6 episodes is going to be a long wait but as long as they don't rush it, I'm sure it's going to be worth the wait. The amount of special effects will probably be much more than previous seasons.

Hopefully, George R.R. Martin will release Winds of Winter so A Song of Ice and Fire fans will have something to preoccupy themselves while waiting for the show's final season.
