It was Steven Spielberg Who Helped Hannah John-Kamen Win Her Role in Ant-Man and the Wasp

Hannah John-Kamen had appeared in both Tomb Raider and Ready Player One earlier this year, but now she's going to take the antagonist spotlight in Ant-Man and the Wasp. As it turns out, it was Steven Spielberg who endorsed for John-Kamen to get the role of Ghost.

As per Los AngelesTimes, Spielberg had sent a letter to director Peyton Reed about casting John-Kamen, and it read:

‘Dear Peyton. I'm excited you're doing the movie and I just want to put in the good word for Hannah. I worked with her and she was terrific. Signed, Steven Spielberg.'

Granted that John-Kamen was already an accomplished actor herself, a boost from one of the most influential minds in cinema is definitely something special. John-Kamen had this to say about playing the role of Ava/Ghost:

"I approached her as not being a villain. In my mind it's everyone else's fault; they're the bad guys. I'm the good guy, and it's every man and woman for herself. She's a complex cookie. She's got a lot of depth and she's vulnerable. I think the audience are going to be very, very confused as to how they feel about her."

Though Marvel had a problem earlier when it came to writing its villains, ever since last year, they've been pumping out some more complicated antagonists. I have to say, Ghost is actually more layered than the cookie-cutter villains of the early MCU.

Catch John-Kamen as Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp now in theaters.
