Is This Shazam! Still Referencing Aquaman?

There are only two DCEU films coming out next year, and the first one will be Shazam! starring Zachary Levi. A new still has found its way online, and it's possible that it could be a reference to Aquaman.

We know based on the trailer that Billy and Freddy will be going around testing what kind of powers Shazam has, and with Levi appearing to be holding a small fish bowl in this scene, I can't help but think that this scene has Billy trying to test if he has the power to communicate with fish.

You can also tell that it's one of the power testing scenes since you have Freddy holding up a camera as he does with the other tests.

While the DCEU was introduced with dark and mature themes with movies like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, WB is trying to go forward with a more lighthearted direction. Aquaman actually ended up pretty kid-friendly, and it looks like that humor will be amped up when it comes to Shazam!

Personally, I didn't really have an issue with the mature tone at all. The Dark Knight was a pretty great movie, and I thought it was cool that Man of Steel was trying to go for something more mature. I mean, not every superhero movie franchise has to be like the MCU.

Billy Batson is a streetwise 14-year-old who can magically transform into the adult superhero Shazam simply by shouting out one word. His newfound powers soon get put to the test when he squares off against the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.

Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5, 2019.
