Superman: Legacy has been generating a lot of positive noise as of late, especially after reports came out that DC Studios is already in the process of casting the next Man of Steel.

As it stands, we still don't know which actor will end up becoming Henry Cavill's successor but names like David Corenswet, Pierson Fodé, and Nicholas Hoult are all said to be gunning for the coveted part.

As exciting as that is, the biggest question in every Superman fan's mind is: will he actually wear his iconic red trunks in the live-action reboot? Well, James Gunn has the answer.

Celebrating Superman Day, the director and writer of Superman: Legacy shared an image of the Man of Steel's various costumes throughout the years and naturally, he was met with questions about Clark Kent's Kryptonian suit in the new DCU.

When asked if they plan on bringing back the character's iconic "upper wear", Gunn confirmed that they haven't decided on what look to give him. He said: "Undecided. We are doing incredible amounts of concept art now with both and we’ll use whatever version looks best. For me, the most important aspects of the character go beyond trunks!"

Current iterations of the character no longer sport the red trunks but old-school Man of Steel fans have been quite vocal about their desire to see Kal-El don a classic piece to his Superman outfit.

I mean, James Gunn is a massive fan of the silver age comics so it wouldn't come as a surprise if he ended up reincorporating the trunks to Superman's suit.

Personally, I'd love to see it happen simply because we need a more classic interpretation of the beloved superhero. I'm pretty sure that's what they are aiming for anyway.

DC Studios' Superman: Legacy is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
