Is Star Wars Resistance About to Overlap with the Force Awakens?

It had been confirmed for a while that Star Wars Resistance was going to overlap with the story of The Force Awakens, but we didn't really know that it would be so soon. Thanks to the new midseason trailer, it seems to confirm that Resistance will be catching up to TFA already, and it isn't even the end of the first season yet.

If you watch the trailer, you'll notice that the hologram being played of Hux is the same speech he made when they fired Starkiller Base on TFA. While it's likely that this is just the same speech being rehearsed, I think the show has been blatantly building up to the destruction of Kaz's homeworld. After all, he's always making it painfully obvious that he comes from a well off family.

My guess is that Kaz will lose his home and his family, and that will lead to him being more serious about working for the Resistance. If we follow long enough, we might even get to find out what Kaz and his friends were up to during the Battle of Crait.

Just like Star Wars Rebels, Resistance is off to a very lighthearted start. When it comes to these shows, they always start out kid-friendly and mature along with the audience as the series keeps going. Resistance has already been renewed for a second season; so I guess all we have to do is wait and see how far the show has to go.

Maybe we may even get some adventures with Rey and Finn set between the events of The Last Jedi and Episode IX?

Catch Star Wars Resistance when it returns to the Disney Channel on Jan. 13.
