Seirei Gensoki: Spirit Chronicles is originally a light novel by Yuri Kitayama. It was illustrated by Riv. It was serialized online on Shosetsuka ni Naro in February 2014. Hobby Japan acquired it and released 18 volumes under HJ Bunko imprint.
It follows the story of Amakawa Haruto, a young man who died. He passed away even before reuniting with his childhood friend. On the other hand, Rio wanted to get revenge for those who killed his mother. Take note, in front of him, when he was five years old. The interesting thing is that Haruto resurrected in Rio's body and vice versa.
Is Spirit Chronicles Manga Complete, Finished, or Ongoing?
After the light novel was serialized, a manga adaptation followed. It was released on Hobby Japan's Comic Fire website from 2016 to 2017 and was discontinued because of health reasons. Futago Minaduki decided to make another manga adaptation that was released on the same website by 2017 and is still ongoing until today.
As of now, it can be collected in five tankobon volumes. The second manga and the light novel are available in North America as J-Novel Club acquired license. In 2021, TMS Entertainment decided to develop an anime adaptation. The series made its debut on AT-X, BS Fuji, and TV Tokyo. International fans can stream it on Crunchyroll.
About Spirit Chronicles
Haruto looked forward to reuniting with his friend, who turned out to be his childhood love. Unfortunately, he died in a bus crash at the age of 20. When he woke up, he is seven years old in a freezing room in the slums from another world. He then later discovered that Rio is an immigrant child from a fantasy kingdom. On the other hand, Rio discovered that he now has "special power" that he can use well to get a better life.
Fans of isekai series will surely enjoy Spirit Chronicles. The series will tackle issues particularly on Rio's side who is an immigrant and orphan. People from the kingdom have looked down on him because of his social standing. Since Haruto is more mature, his reaction to his new environment will be different as compared with how Rio handled his own life.
