A new character is set to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as the premiere of his very own origin series looms near, fans and viewers are curious whether Moon Knight would be a hero entirely new to everyone or would he be like DC’s Batman because people started to notice similarities between the two?
Is Moon Knight MCU's Version of Batman?
Moon Knight is bound to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he might just be the darkest character to ever step foot in the franchise that many are calling him Marvel’s Batman. People point out their striking similarities such as difficulties in separating the identities of the hero and the person beyond the mask, using physical abilities than powers, and both having a vigilante type of work.
However, in essence, the two heroes are entirely different. Moon Knight is heavily influenced by his father, a rabbi, who escaped the Nazis to try and start a new life in America, and his brother who later turned out to be a villain, Shadowknight. Batman, on the other hand, is an only child born out of wealth and among the elites of Gotham. While his parents died early on, he lived a comfortable life.
Batman promised to himself to scour the city and kill all the criminals, making himself a self-made hero while Moon Knight is not, at all, intending to be a superhero but when he was chosen to be one by Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon, he became a hero. Aside from that, Moon Knight actually has powers based on the phases of the moon, while Batman is known for his gadgets and personal training for strength.

Their alter egos differ as well. Batman knows very well that his other identity is Bruce Wayne and it’s just that he struggled reconciling the two identities he has. For Moon Knight, it is a lot more complicated than that. He has a dissociative identity disorder and when one comes up, the other completely vanishes as if his personas are not aware of each other’s existence.
The list could go on as to how different Batman and Moon Knight are but from the head writer and executive producer of the show himself, Jeremy Slater, said in an interview with Empire magazine, that a comparison between the two is something he isn’t interested in working with. He recognizes the fact that Batman is a hero of his own right and Moon Knight is an entirely different character.
Slater added that Moon Knight is heavily influenced by Indiana Jones rather than the Caped Crusader, "There's all this amazing stuff from Egyptology in the comics. Raiders of the Lost Ark was actually my big reference when I first pitched. How can we tell this dark, complex story, but also inject some big, fun, supernatural, Amblin-style magic at the same time?"
Oscar Isaac plays Moon Knight and he would be joined by Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, May Calamawy as Layla, Loic Mabanza as Bushman, the late Gaspar Ulliel as Anton Mogart, Lucy Thackeray as Donna, and F. Murray Abraham as Khonshu.
Moon Knight arrives on Disney Plus at 3 AM EST on March 30, 2022 where there would be six episodes to be released weekly. There is no news yet as to the release of the series on DVD but what is sure is that it would be available on the service in the highest streaming quality, 4K. It is rated TV-14 which means those who are aged 14 years or above can watch the show; however, they must be accompanied by an adult.
