The new horror comedy film Lisa Frankenstein follows a teenage girl in the 1980s who reanimates a Victorian-era corpse and turns him into the man of her dreams. Now, some of you may be asking, is Lisa Frankenstein scary?

Several reviews have described the film as this generation's gender-flipped version of the '80s classic Weird Science due to the similarities in their concepts and is being compared to the Tim Burton films.

Considering that the new movie from Zelda Williams (in her feature-length directorial debut) deals with darker themes and aesthetics, some people are wondering what they can expect in its horror elements and whether it is palatable enough for the general audience.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) certified Lisa Frankenstein with a PG-13 rating according to the film's IMDb page.

It means that it is not recommended for audiences under the age of 13 as there are elements that might not be appropriate for pre-teenagers. Parents are encouraged to be cautious.

The film was given that rating due to "violent content, bloody images, sexual material, language, sexual assault, teen drinking and drug content."

Considering the themes and subject matter that the film deals with, it is not surprising that it received that rating but it is still acceptable for its target audience.

According to Common Sense Media, Lisa Frankenstein contains a lot of violent and scary moments as they warned that it has shocking murder scenes (which are played with laughs), body parts being cut off, and a depiction of suicide.

They also noted that there some sex and romance involved in the film as the characters are shown in bed together and there are several brief moments that suggest sexual acts.

In addition, the review warned depictions of drugs, underage drinking, strong language and slurs, and exploration of grief and trauma. There are also iffy themes related to revenge.

However, given that Lisa Frankenstein has a PG-13 rating, don't expect explicit depictions in the portrayals of sex, violence, and drugs and it is still going to be palatable for the general audience that is over 13 years old despite the scary elements.

Lisa Frankenstein is now showing in theaters everywhere.
