My Hero Academia is a shounen anime that explores the bonds between the characters. We know all about the bond between Shoto and Endeavor, but we know little about Deku and his bond with his father, Hisashi. It’s no surprise fans are asking if Hisashi Midoriya is dead in My Hero Academia.

Who Is Hisashi Midoriya?
Hisashi Midoriya is Izuku Midoriya’s father and Inko Midoriya’s husband. Sadly, we don’t know what he looks like, what he's up to, or where he is even to this day.
It is said that Hisashi is assigned overseas due to his work, but his current status and activities are all unknown.
Obviously, not much is known about Hisashi, making him one of the most enigmatic characters in My Hero Academia.
On the other hand, it is known that Hisashi has an unnamed Fire Breath Quirk that allows him to breathe fire, as revealed in My Hero Academia Chapter 1 and the anime’s pilot episode.
The name Hisashi means “a long time ago," which is a direct reference to the Japanese sentence "hisashiburi,” which translates to “it has been a while.”
Back in 2018, the official X account of Viz Media revealed that Deku’s father would be revealed in the future.
Unfortunately, we’re past 410 chapters, and there’s still no update about Deku’s father at all, leading fans to believe that he might be dead or that he might not appear in the manga even after the Final War.
Is Hisashi Midoriya Dead in My Hero Academia? Here Are Some Fan Theories
Nothing has been confirmed about Hisashi Midoriya’s status as of writing. Still, fans are eager to give their theories about Deku’s father and what his role will be in the story.
Here are some of them:
- Fans think that Hisashi Midoriya will appear after everything calms down. He will greet his son and ask him about what he missed while he was away. Then, Deku will start telling him how he became the greatest hero in the series.
- Others believe that Hisashi Midoriya will never appear and will be confirmed dead since he’s not significant to the story, and introducing him now would serve no purpose at all.
- Some believe that Hisashi Midoriya will appear in the epilogue. He will be looking at Deku, proud of his son’s achievements, but they will not talk to each other.
- Hisashi will be reported dead after fighting a dangerous villain abroad. Some think he’s a Pro Hero assigned abroad, and that’s about it.
- In the past, Hisashi Midoriya’s identity has been theorized to be All Might, Eraserhead, All For One, and even Dabi!
There are still a lot of theories online, but at the end of the day, all of these are just speculations. We have to wait for more updates from Kohei Horikoshi himself to learn more about Deku’s father.
