“Boy meets girl. Girl ghosts boy. Boy gets wrapped up in international espionage ring.” This is how Apple TV+ summarizes its new romantic comedy action film, Ghosted.
Many have been waiting for this movie because it’s the third team-up of Ana de Armas and Chris Evans, who both previously starred in Knives Out and The Gray Man. They played serious roles in their prior films together, but in Ghosted, we see them in a different light.
Furthermore, Chris Evans also revealed that the movie has some Marvel cameos in it. So after all the hype, is Ghosted worth watching? Here’s a review.
Is Ghosted Worth Watching?
The movie does a good job with romance. It had a promising start because of the romance.
In Ghosted, Chris Evans stars as Cole Turner, a farmer who goes on a date with a mysterious girl Sadie. They spent a whole day together and instantly click after their misunderstanding at the farmer’s market. Cole instantly falls in love with Sadie and thinks that “she might be the one”.
And then one day, Sadie no longer communicates with him. Cole’s been sending her multiple text messages, but he got no responses. At first, Cole gives reasons and excuses like “maybe she just didn’t have an international calling plan”, or “maybe she didn’t receive the messages at all.”
While his family suggests that Sadie probably ghosted him, Cole is determined to get his answers. So he decides to pull off a grand romantic gesture by going to London to surprise Sadie.
However, he finds himself caught up in Sadie’s mess because she’s actually a secret agent working for the CIA. So things don’t go according to plan for Cole.

All throughout the film, the relationship dynamic between Cole and Sadie is quite entertaining. They have this “will-they-won’t-they” romance because they’re both attracted to the other, but at the same time, they’re angry at each other because of all the lies.
The action in the movie is also good, and it actually overpowers the romance. It’s Ana de Armas that does most of the action scenes, and this is something not entirely new to her. Chris Evans, on the other hand, is the damsel in distress, something he claims he enjoyed playing.
Most of the time in the film is taken up by Cole and Sadie retrieving the Aztec, and they’re always caught up with some bad guys. Thus, there are many fight scenes that leads to the film having more action than romance.
But the film suffers from flaws. For one, it’s too lengthy for its plot. Basically, the plot is really just about a girl who ghosted a boy, them retrieving the Aztec (a biochemical weapon that could potentially destroy the world), and then figuring out the passcode for the weapon.
All throughout the film, it mostly involves Cole and Sadie confused with their feelings for each other, at the same time both of them running away from the bad guys. So things seemed repetitive.
The plot, the script, the storylines – they couldn’t seem to keep one entertained all throughout the 1 hour and 56 minutes. And while there are comedic scenes, like the Marvel cameos, even those aren’t enough.
In conclusion, maybe you should ghost this movie. It’s nothing new (maybe except for the part that it’s the girl who’s the secret agent, not the guy), and it’s something one might probably just forget.
The thrill is on an average level, and so is the comedy (despite it being called a romantic “comedy”). While Chris Evans and Ana de Armas are very talented, the film can’t seem to be on par with successful romantic comedy action movies.
