Will BLACKPINK join THE BLACK LABEL and leave YG Entertainment for good?

Rumors about BLACKPINK’s future under YG Entertainment first made a buzz in December after a Korean news outlet, KpopHerald (The Korea Herald’s subdivision), said the girl group would transfer to the associate company.

“@BLACKPINK will change their agency to YG affiliate @THEBLACKLABEL, founded by Teddy, according to our sources. The industry insider added that the discussions over changing the girls' management had been made since early this year,” the first update read.

YG Entertainment dismissed the reports at that time. But a new set of claims surfaced a few weeks after the first rumor was created.

BLACKPINK Leaving YG Entertainment?

Munhwa Ilbo (via Naver) reported that BLACKPINK members might not renew the contracts and let them expire in August. It ultimately dismissed the Jan. 19 report by NH Investment & Securities, which predicted the girl group would continue its career under the same company.

Per the new post of the publication on Jan. 23, it said YG Entertainment would find it hard to win the members as they received higher guarantee offers elsewhere. For instance, Lisa reportedly received 100 million KRW to change her label.

Insiders, on the other hand, believe YG would need to offer at least 20 billion KRW per member to make them stay. Others suggested that the company would present its new girl group, Baby Monster, to alleviate the potential failure of securing BLACKPINK members’ contract renewals.

YG Entertainment has been dropping sneak peeks of Baby Monster’s seven members in the past weeks — only three members are Korean.

BLACKPINK’s fans reacted to the rumors on the online community, the qoo. They offered mixed reactions to it while hoping the members would stick together no matter what.

Among the comments read:

"I feel like they would so renew their contracts. If you look at their tour schedules this year too, they seem like they're already decided to renew.”
“I feel YG is too small to handle BLACKPINK, I wish they focus on promotions in the United States."
"YG will try their best to keep the group so I think they will renew the contract."
