Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut is wrapping up, like many other anime of the Fall 2021 anime season. While not the most popular anime of the season, in Funimation or elsewhere, the anime about the vampire who becomes the first woman in space has won the hearts of some fans, as it's difficult to find anything resembling it. So, can we expect a Season 2 of Irina: the Vampire Cosmonaut, and when?
Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu Season 2: What Would It Be About?
First, a short overview for those who like to binge seasonal anime after they've wrapped up. Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu, best known as Irina: the Vampire Cosmonaut on Funimation is an alternative history fantasy anime about the first person to reach the moon; a vampire girl! Two superpowers, the Zirnitra Union and the United Kingdom of Arnak (none of which remind us of anything, of course) are fighting to prevail in space.
To achieve this goal first, Zirnitra introduces the Nosferatu project. As part of it, Irina Luminescu, a vampire girl, becomes a test subject for the conditions expected in space, with plans to be sent to the moon later on. Lev Leps, a backup astronaut candidate, oversees Irina's training. The two come close through their shared dream to reach the moon.
While a Season 2 of the 12-episode anime isn't all that likely right now, we assume a second season would follow Irina and Lev in their lives as Cosmonauts. After all, following his launch to space, Lev is a celebrity of sorts, and he's been told he could even start a revolution.
While a full new season seems excessive, given the show's slow pace, we could definitely see a Special with the couple's adventures in space at some point.
Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu Season 2: Will There Be One?
As of December 2021, Arvo Animation hasn't announced a second season for Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut. At the time, we don't know if this is going to change in the future. This would depend on several factors: whether the story is objectively complete, and the anime's reception are top among them.
Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu is fun to watch, but not life-changing. Its airing did the source material some good, as it's now licensed by Seven Seas, but it's nowhere near the popularity of other works. Moreover, the light novel is complete at 7 volumes, leaving little room for additional content, especially since the anime was already rather slow.
Of course, the studio might still surprise us, so we'll let you know if any additional content is announced.
