There is little doubt that fans have a certain image of the vampires in Anne Rice's novels. However, it looks like AMC's Interview with a Vampire series adaptation is making some major changes to beloved character Louis de Pointe du Lac as they are now looking for a Black actor for the role.
The casting details were revealed by The Illuminerdi, which confirms that AMC is looking for "a 33-year-old Black man for the role" of Louis. The description for the character also states that he is "Creole, beautiful, eyes are brilliant green. His skin is smooth, as if sculpted from Ceylon ebony."
That's not the only major change about Louis in the series. The further description states that "before Louis was turned into a vampire he owned 8 brothels, of the 12 on his street, in New Orleans."
In the novels, Louis is described as a handsome man with "white skin, the color of bleached bone, chin-length black hair, and brilliant green eyes." In addition to that, he was a plantation owner before he met the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt.
In addition to making changes about Louis, the series is looking for an older actor to play his fellow lead character Daniel Malloy. Casting details confirm that Daniel should be played by "a 60-70 year old man" and will be of "open ethnicity."
In the books, Daniel was a young reporter but he will be an older man in the show. The report also confirms the changes because the series will focus on the second interview between Daniel and Louis.
The Interview with a Vampire series is still in development and has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
