IDW Goes Back to Cybertron When Transformers Relaunches This March

IDW has had the Transformers license for a long time now and they have been able to make a number of memorable stories featuring the Autobots and Decepticons, adding complexity and depth to characters who were made to sell toys. They were also much better than the films that Michael Bay made but you can say that about a lot of comic books or other entertainment mediums.

Well, it looks like the company wants to take the Autobots and Decepticons to the very beginning, as IDW is relaunching Transformers this March. The series is going to be a shiny new #1 and will take place in Cybertron before the war ever happened. It's something that hasn't really been done before and it will be interesting to see how this alien culture will be like.

Shipping twice a month, the new series will be written by Brian Ruckley (Godless World) and illustrated by Angel Hernandez (Star Trek: Discovery - Succession) and Ron Joseph (Micronauts: Wrath of Karza).

Here's what the creative team had to say about the new comic series:

Ruckley:"Bringing Transformers fans this story is a real privilege. It's an amazing opportunity for new readers to discover and explore one of the biggest universes – and one of the best casts of characters – that science fiction has to offer, and to get in right at the start of a truly epic saga."
Joseph:"Bringing Transformers fans this story is a real privilege. It's an amazing opportunity for new readers to discover and explore one of the biggest universes – and one of the best casts of characters – that science fiction has to offer, and to get in right at the start of a truly epic saga."

Look for Transformers #1 in comic book stores this March.
