The Jump Festa 2024 reveals have no doubt taken over the anime world over the past few days. That doesn’t mean Jump titles are the only ones that got announcements. For instance, the Fullmetal Alchemist creator’s Hyakushou Kizoku anime has been renewed for Season 2.

Its renewal was shared on the anime’s official website. There aren’t a lot of details on the website right now, but the second season will likely follow the same format as the first, which featured short episodes.

It may not be a typical anime series, but Hyakushou Kizoku is a unique story from the creator of arguably the most acclaimed shonen series to date.

When you ask anime fans which shonen is the best, chances are that you’ll hear Fullmetal Alchemist mentioned. After all, the Brotherhood anime is one of the highest-rated titles on MyAnimeList of all time.

The original manga by Hiromu Arakawa is also renowned for its memorable characters and excellent story.

Unlike many shonen manga authors who stick to the genre, Arakawa is notable for the variety of her works.

Among her most unique projects is Hyakushou Kizoku, an autobiographical manga that features a fictionalized version of Arakawa as a cow.

The manga tells Arakawa’s experience as a farmer at a time before she became a world-renowned mangaka. These experiences are shared through fictionalized versions of Arakawa and her family.

This year, Arakawa’s manga was adapted into an anime. It may not have gotten much attention outside of Japan, but it has become successful enough to be renewed.

The anime’s first season consisted of 12 episodes and aired between July and September 2023. This isn’t a full-fledged series though, as each episode is only four minutes long.

Voicing the show’s characters are:

  • Mutsumi Tamura (Beelzebub in Sand Land) as Hiromu Arakawa
  • Mariko Honda (Yuuko Aoi in Nichijou) as Ishii-san
  • Shigeru Chiba (Kazuma Kuwabara in Yu Yu Hakusho) as Oyaji-dono
  • Kujira (Orochimaru in Naruto) as Okan

Recently, the anime was confirmed to get another season, though there were no other details mentioned.

Likely, the series will also feature four-minute episodes, but it remains to be seen if the cast and studio Pie in the sky will return.

In the meantime, the first season of the anime will be released on a DVD format alongside Volume 8 of the manga, which will be released this week.
